What I love most about producing creative projects are the people you connect with, that are willing to contribute to your vision. For the editorial Tactile Illusions for Origo Magazine I wanted to create a tactile experience with two dimensional visuals. It was my aim to let the spectator feel with their eyes by presenting textures that evoke a physical or emotional response. To give more context to the spine coat of Judith van Vliet, I just had to get a hedgehog in the shot!
On Marktplaats I found hedgehog mum Manon. By coincidence she was in the city where we planned to shoot on the day that the shoot would take place. The reason for this? Manon and her boyfriend were taking their snakes to a reptile convention. They would have a seat in the car left for the little hedgehog and didn't mind making a little detour to kickstart the modeling career of their offspring.
You can imagine that we all immediately fell in love when our hedgehog model appeared on set. And hedgehog mum Manon's eyes sparkled with pride while her baby rocked the shot. After this lovely family set off to show their slithering baby's at the reptiles convention (things you do for your kids), it was time to get back in our grunge mode. The star of the next rather lurid shot was a pig heart..
